You need to be logged in to purchase our raw jute rope reels. Treating jute rope is a skill, it's labour intensive and not usually for beginners. If this is your first time you may want to consider starting with our treated jute ropes, otherwise you can log-in (or register for an account) to be able to purchase this.

This is our signature jute rope for shibari. Light, fast and with a beautifully consistent twist. Single-ply, 6mm diameter on a 200 meter rope reel. This is the rope we use ourselves most of the time. It's the same as the treated rope we sell, provided here in raw form on the spool so you can treat it yourself.

Treating your own ropes can be a a fun way to create your own rope set (or two), while making the ropes your own. Note that treating ropes from the reel takes patience, practice and attention to detail. Untreated jute ropes in their raw form are stiff, which makes them more susceptible to damage from being mis-handled while they're still breaking in. Note there will be usually be some imperfections (it would be impossible to produce 200m of rope in a single length with zero imperfections) so we suggest cutting around these. If you're just starting out on your rope treatment journey we can also suggest our pre-cut untreated ropes.

You can find out how we treat our ropes on our blog.

Monygrab whit JBO

Sad to say that the amout of JBO in this product maks it un useful on pepol 😭 making this feel like sutch a monygrab 💸

I was shockt to finde that a rope studio would finde this aproprietary to tie whit.

I tryd to heat tret it to get rid of the JBO but even after this the smell from the JBO remains. Handling this rope made my hands smell of the JBO for 24h and you are going to be itching.

Ye sure it is a nice rope but do it mater when i cant use it for tieing?

If you wish to buy rope meake sure thay say JBO free! Or you will get 220 m rope you cant use.

Perfect rope

The best rope I've processed myself and I've processed a fair bit as I only use rope I process myself. I've used a fair few different suppliers and this stuff is easily the best I've had. It comes very stiff but once processed and broken in, it's soft and pliable without being too pliable. Breaking in didn't take long at all either and I can already tell there's more breaking in possible so the already perfect rope feels like it will age brilliantly. I've managed to get it a brilliant colour and it smells amazing with little to no JBO smell once treated (dry treated by the way). In fact, I like it so much I don't think I'm going to risk going anywhere else for reels of rope. Customer service is top notch too.

Rope is good but too thick

I started my rope journey with a roll of Ogawa and continued with a roll of Nawaya. Ogawa was a bit too loose for my taste and required a lot of care. I like Nawaya better but it's expensive and a bit harder to break in. I bought this roll to give it a try as it is advertised as something in between the two other ropes.

The Anatomie rope seems of good quality. Smell-wise, the chemical smell is quite strong when not treated but will go away eventually.

The main reason for my 2-stars rating is that the rope is way too thick. About 6.6mm ± 0.1mm (measured with a caliper) whereas it is advertised as 6.0mm. It makes a huge difference and makes this rope unusable for me. After some use and tensioning, the rope doesn't really get much thinner.
Note that Ogawa also comes slightly thicker than advertised but it gets quickly thinner with use and tension. From my experience, Nawaya is the only rope that is precisely the advertised thickness, and it also gets a bit thinner after being used with tension (0.2-0.3mm)

Hope it helps!

The reel deal

What can be said other than Anatomie's signature jute? The rope is the same grade and quality as used by the studio for all their rope requirements so it's got to be top notch. I certainly concur. To date, I've got a full kit of great gear to process and I'm really looking forward to creating with these new ropes!
